Top team across Europe at the Christmas break
Published by DSAdmin on December 23, 2008
This one will be a huge surprise. In the Bundes Liga (Germany’s Premier League), little known Hoffenheim were promoted this season from the lower leagues and they’ve rip-roared into first place in the German league! FIRST PLACE! To any fan of sport, it’s always a great thing to see the under-dog team made up of a bunch of relative ‘nobodys’ come through and slay giants, tossing the diamond-encrusted carcases and million dollar sports car driving prissy’s out of their way. The German League has been in the strangle-hold of giants Bayern Munich for a few years. Bayern Munich is a team that went out and bought the top striker in Italy (Luca Toni), the top player in France (Franc Ribery), the top scorer in Germany (Miroslav Klose) and host of others to bolster their chances of being German and European champions. And, until just Friday, they were 3 points behind Hoffenheim. However, in a cruel twist of fate, Bayern Munich ended up beating Hoffenheim Friday night with a goal in the 92nd minute. Hoffenheim still hold first place on goal-difference and has shown their mettle by holding out for such a long time against the giants of Munich. It will be an exciting season to say the least in the German League, and through their unbelievable performance this year, their relative unknown status, their sheer drive and ambition to change the landscape of German football, Hoffenheim have to be the best overall soccer club this year.
