Top team in the EPL at the Christmas Break
Published by DSAdmin on December 23, 2008
Liverpool has come out blazing his season with a series of convincing performances. Although, it pains me to admit this, overall they seem to be the best premiership team this year. Even though their star-striker Fernando Torres has been injured the past few games, and their 30 million Pounds summer acquisition, Robbie Keane, has failed to impress in-front of goal, their midfield has been scoring goals, their defense has been solid and they’ve even managed to beat Manchester United and Chelsea. Chelsea would be the team you expected to be the best at the beginning of the season. They made some great off-season acquisitions such as Deco in the midfield and Bosingwa in defense. However, unfortunate injuries to their star forward Didier Drogba and most significantly and injury that has ruled out Michael Essien for months has put a dent in their plans – mind you, Chelsea is only 1 point behind Liverpool. When Michael Essien comes back from injury Chelsea will definitely give Liverpool a sensational run for the title. Not to mention, although Manchester United had an appalling start to the season, they’ve come rip-roaring to 3rd place. The interesting thing to note is that although each of the above three teams have breathtaking lineups on paper, when their ‘star’ player is injured, it makes a great difference. You see this in Chelsea with Micheal Essien, as mentioned above, and with Man United, Christiano Ronaldo had been out injured for a good chunk of games which saw United really falter. Now that he’s back, they’re making a good run for it. For Liverpool, their main guy is Steven Gerrard and he has played every game. Everything as it stands right now, it has to be Liverpool. Again, I have to stress that it gives me indigestion to have to admit Liverpool as being the best team in the premiership this year!
