Will transfer window affect your Fantasy EPL Team?
Published by DSAdmin on February 2, 2009
With the transfer window getting ready to close for the next few months, fantasy football fans really need to weigh up their options about who is going to earn them the points for the rest of the season. The more obvious transfers will spring to mind but the knock on effects of some of the moves will seriously impact on the points up for grabs.
Manchester City have finally gotten hold of Shay Given but those who have the Irish stopper in their team shouldn’t worry too much as he should be able to help City to a few clean sheets. However, Givens arrival is likely to see Michael Hart feature less at City so this is worth bearing in mind if you have Hart in your line up this season. At the moment, Newcastle look set to replace Shay Given with Steve Harper but you cant rule out a last minute swoop for another keeper to help the Geordies retain their top flight status.
Apart from transfer news, the latest spate of injuries can have an impact on some players ability to earn points. Jermain Defoe, with two goals in three matches since his return to Tottenham Hotspur, has looked as though he could be back to his best but a foot injury has derailed the players’ season and some of the rumours suggest he could be out for some considerable amount of time. This may see Spurs make a move for yet another ex player with Robbie Keane possibly coming back and if the Irishman does return to London; his value for fantasy teams may be about to sky rocket. Other players who are suffering from injuries which may see them offering a low yield for the rest of the season include Newcastle United’s Michael Owen and Joey Barton. Newcastle have offset these losses slightly by swiftly bringing in Kevin Nolan from Bolton and Joe Kinnear will be hoping that Nolan can recapture his form of a few seasons back. Nolan has fallen out of favour with Bolton fans recently but the Newcastle fans will have a lot more people to vent their anger at, so Nolan should be able to get on with his football and perhaps return to goal scoring activity.
The end of the January transfer window keeps every manager occupied with the same being true for professional managers and fantasy football coaches. With games starting to come thick and fast in the league, making sure your team is up to date to take advantage of the recent moves is the top priority. Whether you have the money of Spurs or Manchester City and are able to make an abundance of signings or perhaps you are Chelsea, struggling to bring in new players when your club really needs a boost, keeping informed of what late moves have occurred could be the key to clinching your own title.
