What Kind Of Soccer Manager Are You?

Published by Ian John on April 9, 2009

What kind of soccer manager would you be? Take this simple Decipher Soccer test to find out!

Q1. Your team is winning at home 1-0 with just minutes to go, your defender makes a lunging tackle and brings down the forward for a penalty… Do you say that it was

1. A poor decision by your defender, you will need to make sure that he works on that in training.
2. A poor decision by the official, it was never a penalty, he almost got the ball after all!
3. unfortunate but you can’t comment as you didn’t see it.
4. never a penalty as this is Old Trafford / Stamford Bridge / Anfield / The Emirates and the official must be mistaken.

Q2. There is a crucial, big game coming up at the weekend and the winner of this will stand a great chance of going on to success. The FA announce the official for the game… Do you…

1. Say nothing. The official has a hard enough job as it is without any added pressure.
2. Subtly remind the official that he has never given your side a decision in his life and that it is entirely possible he sends the club hate mail, he is so biased.
3. Question the officials integrity by reminding him of every contentious decision he has ever made involving your club and stir up a potential vendetta against him by suggesting he will be less than fair.
4. Say he’s a great official and that you are delighted he is in control of the game. He’s welcome into your office anytime for a nice cigar, bottle of whisky, keys to the new Ferrari and a massage from the Girls of the Playboy mansion.

Q3. A corner ball is played into your box. Your defender catches it, bounces the ball three times before throwing a long pass downfield that Payton Manning would be proud of, thus releasing your striker who races on to score… What is the correct decision?

1. Disallow the goal and award a penalty against your team and your defender is booked.
2. Play on. It was ball to hand. The goal stands.
3. Play on, It was ball to hand, the goal stands and book the opposition players who complained at the decision.
4. A penalty to Manchester United, even though they aren’t playing in this game.

Q4. Your team is losing 1-0 and you are in injury time. You are a big club and the title race may hinge on the few moments left in the game. How much injury time do you feel should be played?

1. However much was measured by the officials during the game.
2. At least 5 added minutes.
3. However many minutes you tell the fourth official to play.
4. Play until you at least equalise, if not steal an unlikely winner.

Q5. Your team are playing your fierce title rivals at home in a crucial game. However they totally outplay you, beat you 4-1 and leave you feeling a tad humiliated. After the game, a reporter asks you your view on the game. Do you say…

1. Well done the opposition, but it is a marathon not a sprint and there is still plenty of opportunity for your team to come back and prove themselves worthy title winners.
2. You didn’t see the game.
3. It was all down to poor refereeing decisions blatantly in favour of the opposition.
4. The best team lost.

If you answered mainly 2,3 and 4 then congratulations! You should get your name down for one of the top jobs in the English Premier League! Your brand of blinkered, self-delusion is ideally suited to the role! Well done!

If you answered mainly 1 then you are a foolhardy idealist! You wouldn’t survive 10 minutes in the job. But by God, the game sorely needs people like you.
