Premiership and Primera Liga Giants fight for Ribery!
Published by Ian John on October 15, 2009
If newspaper reports emanating from England and Spain are to be believed, then Manchester City will fight Barcelona and Real Madrid to secure the services of Bayern Munich midfielder Frank Ribery. Sources are suggesting that Ribery, who was reportedly happy to stay at Bayern Munich in the summer, has fallen out of favour with Bayern boss Louis Van Gaal and that he may well be allowed to leave the club in the summer for a fee of around £65m. While that puts him out of the reach of most clubs, it seems that the two Spanish giants plus big spending City are ready to try and lure the Frenchman away from the Allianz Arena.
Manchester United meanwhile have spent the majority of this transfer closed season being linked with one goalkeeper after another. Van Der Sar’s age and fragility and Ben Foster’s inability seemingly making a keeper a top priority for Sir Alex when the January transfer window opens. Schalke 04′s Manuel Neuer, CSKA Moscow’s Igor Akinfeev, Sporting’s Rui Patricio, Inter’s Julio Cesar and now Portsmouth’s David James have all been ‘linked’ with a move to Old Trafford in January. How reliable each of these rumours are is debatable, but there does seem to be growing evidence that the United boss is growing increasingly concerned about the keeping situation at the club.
Other big news sees Manchester City’s Brazillian Robinho linked with a move to Barcelona when the window opens. Whether this is a permanent switch or a loan move is still open to conjecture. It does seem however that City have developed a playing style that may see the Brazilian surplus to requirements come January. Especially if Mark Hughes has his eye on Franck Ribery too.
There’s lots of other news. David Silva being linked with almost every top side in the world, Liverpool wanting either Emile Heskey or Goran Pandev to back up Fernando Torres, Man Utd and Man City eyeing Inter full back Maicon, Sol Campbell being linked with almost everyone from Hull City to Juventus and Notts County reportedly set to offer Roberto Mancini £80,000 a week to become their manager.
The world has gone mad folks…
