The Tuesday Troll : Yes it’s on a Wednesday!

Published by Ian John on December 23, 2009

I know, it’s a Tuesday troll on a Wednesday, there is a reason for this. I am writing this on Tuesday, but it won’t publish until Wednesday. You see? Perfectly simple. A bit like me.

Anyway, with two weeks worth of transfer stories to review and so little time, I should really get on with it.

First up is of course Manchester City. Hughes out, Mancini in and it seems a blank chequebook for the Italian to start writing cheques. Depending on who you believe and want to read, the players Manchester City are ‘interested in’ are (deep breath);

Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli, Giorgio Chiellini, Thierry Henry, Franck Ribery, Fernando Torres, Yaya Toure, Javier Mascherano, Maicon, Antonio Cassano, Matthew Upson and Angel Di Maria… You’ll be able to add several more names to this list over the coming days.

Away from the frenzied hype of Eastlands comes news that West Ham, Chelsea and now Liverpool are all showing an interest in Luca Toni. Chelsea because he will replace Didier Drogba in January, Liverpool and West Ham because Bayern Munich said he can go for free and they’ll pay the taxi fare to get him to the airport.

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in Manchester United defender Jonny Evans, reportedly at the behest of Cristiano Ronaldo. And can you see Sir Alex selling a talented young defender in January to Real Madrid? Yes, me too.

Arsenal are supposedly keeping tabs on Everton striker Louis Saha, who is out of contract in June. Everton boss David Moyes, if he loses Saha, may then make a move for former Arsenal target Marouane Chamakh of Bordeaux.

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish can’t wait for the January sales, he’s already plotting spending some of owner Carson Yeung’s £40m transfer chest on players such as Charlton youngster Jonjo Shelvey, West Ham’s Scott Parker and Celtic winger Aiden McGeady. He’ll probably get some cheap Christmas decorations too, to save a few bob next year.

Liverpool meanwhile have been linked with Crystal Palace’s young winger Victor Moses. £5m is reportedly the asking price for this exciting young winger and Simon Jordan is sat with his fingers crossed that Rafa is desperate enough to bite. You never know, the Palace players may well get paid in January if they manage to sell him.

Blackburn have offered a trial to former French whizzkid Camel Meriem and manager Sam Allardyce is reportedly trying to get James Beattie to turn his back on Stoke and come back to Ewood Park in a reunion that would rival ‘Love Story’ in the tear-jerkiness stakes.

A transfer troll wouldn’t be a transfer troll without the latest on what Chelsea have been up to. It seems Carlo Ancelotti has almost concluded a deal with Atletico Madrid for Sergio Aguero. The Argentinean striker was busily lauding the Premier League at the weekend and saying how well he’d fit in, so it’s a shoe in that something has been sorted. The Blues have also been linked with the fantastically named Jerko Leko of Monaco. God knows what kind of rhyme Chelsea fans will have to come up with for that.

Finally, onto the man who keeps the papers in transfer stories at all times of the year, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp. For Spurs this week it has been a case of who will be going, rather than arriving. David Bentley could be on his way to Birmingham say reports, but only if Alex McLeish is mad enough to pay the over-inflated asking price for the fancy dan midfielder. Gareth Bale is wanted by both Birmingham and Nottingham Forest and Roman Pavlyuchenko is reportedly wanted by Roma, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Some managers have obviously hit the Christmas spirits a little early this year.
